Making and sharing lists is a way to organize and communicate. Their list may include fantasy ideas or impossible deeds, let them express their thoughts. Discuss what can be done. The list is a set of possible goals not all will be achieved!

Some ideas: learn to ride a bike, go to the zoo, play all day long, watch a parade, be on stage, relax, visit the moon, go to a baseball game, etc.  

Parameters can be based on the same concepts used for budgeting and planning a birthday party: is there enough time, the cost, safety, is it healthy, and is it age appropriate.

Keep the list,  check off completed items and add more ideas as the summer progresses.

Start the summer off with a plan. Make a list, today, of 10 things you want to do, make, create, achieve, and experience with your kids this summer.

Include big ideas and simple ones. Decorate a hat (sun protection), read together, dance in the kitchen, make fruit preserves,  create a silly video, make up new words to an old song, hike a trail, take up a new hobby or sport together, etc.

Do you know what Italian city claims to be Pinocchio’s hometown?

Our book is resting next to someone who is having a birthday today.

Any guesses on the city or the birthday person?

The girls are all “dressed up” including fancy hair bows, purses, party cloths, and dressy shoes. After a few games, such as drop the cloths pins into a bottle, musical chairs, a hula hoop contest they all gathered around while the birthday girl opened her gifts. Gifts included board games, books, and a wicker bike basket.   The party table was set with a fabric cloth, party plates, napkins, crepe paper surprise balls and paper party cups full of candy and nuts. And of course, ice cream and cake was served.

Children often enjoy all girl or all boy parties at this age. This  photo was taken at my sister’s birthday party (mid 1950′s).

It just so happens her birthday is today, happy birthday Sharon!
